As the Finger Lakes landscape settles into winter, Seneca County shines with small-town charm, twinkling lights, and holiday cheer. Whether you’re visiting for a cozy weekend getaway or looking for family-friendly fun, our communities are full of festive ways to celebrate the season. From holiday markets to wine trail adventures, here are 12 ways to make your holidays bright in the heart of the Finger Lakes.

🎄 1. Attend a Holiday Tree Lighting or Parade

Kick off the season with a dose of small-town magic. Watch as Seneca County’s downtowns glow with sparkling lights, community carols, and hometown pride.

Every year Waterloo NY hosts their "Real Christmas Celebration" and invite residents and those who'd like to participate to an event that focuses on the meaning of Christmas. This year the event will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 3-6 p.m. Caregivers will be recognized this year, and it is asked that attendees bring a canned good for the Harmony Food Pantry. People are encouraged to bring a caregiver with them to be thanked in the form of a small gift, and there will be a reenactment taking place of the "real Christmas Story." Music, prayer, children's activities, free giveaways and booths will be at the event. This is a great event for those who want to enjoy the nostalgia of Christmas and is family friendly!

The Ovid Winter Festival Parade will be taking place on December 6th this year with a theme of "A Season of Lights." Families can enjoy a parade, a festive town, and performers to bring in the Christmas spirit!

Included in the It's a Wonderful Life Festival, an event that takes place over an entire weekend and transforms Seneca Falls, NY into Bedford Falls, NY (even at the Post Office!) is a big parade that even has Santa waving to the crowds. The parade and festival celebrate the movie It's a Wonderful Life, because Seneca Falls is said to have greatly influenced the setting of Bedford Falls.
