Since Restvale Cemetery in Seneca Falls opened in 1848, its burial grounds have served as the resting place for the most distinguished citizens and historical figures of our community as well as people who may be known only to their family, friends, and loved ones and those who have been completely forgotten by time. With the Seneca Falls Historical Society, you can take a walking tour of Restvale Cemetery to engage in the lives and times of some of the most well-known people buried in the cemetery and explore the marks they made on our community and our history.
On Saturday, September 12 at 4 p.m., SFHS Executive Director Jonathan Monfiletto will lead “Stepping Back in Time: A Walking Tour of Restvale Cemetery” to share the life stories of several figures who now call Restvale Cemetery home and the legacies they left behind through their work and their families. The people to be featured include Jacob Chamberlain, Grace Woodworth, Seabury Gould, Wilhelmus Mynderse, and a few others. The walking tour will take place primarily in section B of Restvale Cemetery; please consider parking between sections K and I on the west side of the ravine that divides the cemetery or in section A along the easternmost roadway of the cemetery.
Admission costs $8 for SFHS members and $10 for nonmembers, and registration in advance is welcome but not required. The walking tour should last approximately one hour and will travel along a flat, gravel path. The walking tour will happen rain or shine. For more information, please call (315) 568-8412 or email info@sfhistoricalsociety.org. This program is made possible by support from Doran's Funeral Home.
