Did you know that Waterloo, NY is the official birthplace of Memorial Day? It all started back in 1865 when prominent local druggist, Henry C. Welles, had told his friends at a gathering, while praising the living veterans of the Civil War, it would be "well to remember the patriotic dead by placing flowers on their graves."
