Group health insurance is chosen by employers to provide coverage for employees and their dependents, often lowering costs and expanding benefits. It’s ideal for small businesses seeking to offer competitive, employer-sponsored plans rather than employees purchasing individual coverage on their own.
*Note - these rates are subject to change on a quarterly basis
Individual health insurance is chosen by individuals or families who do not have access to employer-sponsored coverage. It also covers sole-proprietor business owners. Individual plans are based on personal needs, income, and eligibility, with potential financial assistance available through the NYS of Health marketplace.
*Note - Enrollment is limited to an Open Enrollment Period (typically Nov.1 through Jan. 31), but you can enroll year-round in certain plans (Medicaid, Essential Plan, Child Health Plus) or if you experience a Qualifying Life Event.
The New York State of Health Marketplace is the state’s official platform for comparing and enrolling in coverage. Individuals use the Individual Marketplace, while small employers access SHOP to offer group plans, with potential tax credits and financial assistance available.
